Where in the world am I? 

I am in the upper level of my home in Las Vegas, Nevada. I love it here so much.

What's inspiring my creativity?

Oh my gosh, what isn't inspiring my creativity? Everything is a potential creative idea. That is how I live my life.  I pull from my very rich inner emotional life and inner monologue. Somebody could say a phrase that triggers a train of thought. Before I know it, I am singing. I'm always tapped into, like, literally I'll start singing my thoughts. So it's anything and everything.

What makes you happy?

Just being home with my dogs, being on stage, being with friends, very, very simple things. But really, like, people, connection, music, and my fur babies. That's really it. Is there anything else? I don't think so.

Are there any Australian artists you would love to collaborate with? 

Delta Goodrem, DG squared, and my friend Darren Hayes. We could have the three D's. It's a popular new group already. We've already had a hit in Japan. But seriously, those two are favorites. I mean, I love Tina too, Tina Arena. I love that, like, the Aussie artists, like, I feel like we're all on a first-name basis, and I still feel like there's something else to be done with me and Craig. I suggested this new musical idea to him. He hasn't gotten back to me on it yet. Maybe he hated it. I don't know. We'll see. Craig McLachlan, of course, who I did Grease with. That's who I'm talking about.

Your music has been played all over the world and has become part of the soundtrack of so many people’s lives. When you look back at that legacy, how does it make you feel?

"When I look at the legacy of my music, being that my songs are a part of the soundtrack of your lives, I can't process that. Like, I quite literally am like, how is this my life? This was always my dream from the time I was a little girl, and forever, that's something that can never change or be taken away, right? From all of us. The music that has impacted us. So the fact that I got to create some of that music that is part of all of your visceral memories is wild. That's my word for it: wild."

Who is an emerging artist you love?

You know, they're not really new or emerging, but I know I'm kind of changing the question, but I'm gonna go with, like, modern. So Zara Larsson, I've been, like, obsessed with watching her performing live, you know, her clips on social media, because she's got this thing that, like, ABBA had. Like, she's incredibly beautiful, and it would be so easy to take that and hold that against her. You know what I'm saying? Like, people who don't know any better might try to do that. But dang, the girl can sing. Like, she obviously has trained a lot. The same thing with Raye. Like, Raye is an extraordinary vocalist. I saw a picture of the two of those together, and I was like, that's a duet that needs to happen. But I just love how whimsical and connected she is, all the things, all at the same time. So I just feel like highlighting her right now and her makeup. Come on, we all want to emulate that makeup, but it looks so good on her. It's so, like, signature to her. But I hope you all are emulating it if you want to.

Funny memories from the last visit to Australia?

 This recent one. A couple of things was going to the bowling alley, and these, like, younger French people discovering me and my music and then requesting Electric Youth and then dancing with my OGs in the bowling alley. The other funny one was the kangaroo that, like, when people say animals can't talk, oh yeah, they can. And those can't. Listen, y'all have kangaroos that communicate. Like, I was feeding this kangaroo, you know, and we all like to think, we would all like to think, like, we're the animal's bestie, right? Like, oh, I'm an animal person. But I was like, I think I'm getting a little too close, and the kangaroo was kind of giving off this vibe, like, Yeah, I think I'm done. Like, you fed me, and I need you out of my space. So I was, like, absolutely blown away by the fact that you could hang out and feed kangaroos and that they were so cool. But this one let me know when he was done. So anyway, that's a really fun and funny memory.

what's your favorite movie?

Oh my God, there's so many, you guys. There are so many. So, like, I loved Grease, and I love Dirty Dancing, and I loved Amadeus, but recently I have discovered every Albert Brooks movie ever made. So if you've not gone on an Albert Brooks, like Defending Your Life's amazing, Modern Romance, Mother is hysterical and so profound. Oh, and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is another favorite. So there. You've got, like, a whole viewing list, you guys.

A message for your Australian fans:

Thank you guys for staying so patient and so loyal for the 37 years that I did not make it back to see you. So many of you came to see me, which was amazing, in the U.S. And, you know, the... And I don't know. I always just feel, I feel like one of you. I'm not going to attempt the accent because I don't do it well. Right, Levi? You've heard me try. It's nothing you want to hear. But I feel weirdly like I have a connection to the Aussie people because it's about being salt of the earth and joyful and connected. It's making me really emotional and loyal. And so I just feel, like... I feel so warmly welcomed there, and I feel like really truly not a minute had passed.
